We, the admin, founders and moderators of various Social Media formula exchanges, are appalled at the continuation of the formula shortage as well as the increasing necessity of turning to social media to find baby formula. 

Parents are in need of basic sustenance for their babies, and social media platforms are filled with scammers who have taken advantage of them. Thousands of dollars have been stolen from parents desperate to feed their babies — and no doubt more scammers will be emboldened. 

It should NOT be the responsibility of parents throughout the country to help parents find baby formula. And yet, here we are — because the government is not doing enough. 

We are calling on the United States government to assist us in collecting baby formula to help distribute to parents in need as well as collecting the sample cans being sent out by Abbot and Mead Johnson to families expecting babies who do not yet have them. 

Formula is an essential resource. This is not a partisan or a political issue and should be a front issue to date. It is a dire crisis that will have massive impact on the health of infants throughout the country as well as on maternal mental health. 

We have already established a developed network of those in need and those who can help. However, many of us are doing this by covering the costs with Go-Fund-Me campaigns or out of our pockets. 

Nobody should be turning to social media for baby formula. Nobody should be risking the potential of being scammed or of receiving flour or baking soda when they assumed they were receiving food for their baby. 

We are calling on the government and on formula companies to assist us in collecting and distributing formula; to help cover the cost of shipping for all who are being forced to turn to social media in order to feed their baby. We are working to create a national network of formula banks to work with local hospitals in distributing and collecting. 

It is your role as the government of this country to ensure the safety and security of those who live here. Stop allowing the big formula companies to put profits over babies.
