For many years now residents of the town of Hamden has been petitioning our government to install left hand turn signals at the intersection of Shepard and Sherman Ave. Decades ago, the town set up this intersection to support this traffic control by installing turn lanes and double lights. However the turn signals were never completed and with increase traffic on this main through way, town residents are hindered by the lack of this control. This installation will allow for better traffic flow and minimize safety concerns from vehicle trying to turn left with rushing oncoming traffic. Recently, the town Traffic Committee approved this request, but our town engineer has “paused” this work based on an assumption (with no documented proof) that the State DOT denied our request. For those of us that understand the perils of this intersection are asked for your help to let our town and the state know we demand action now!
