Joe Babcock has been the OCSD girls varsity basketball coach for years. On Tuesday Joe is being replaced by someone this team or this community doesn’t even know. He has literally rebuilt this program from the ground up. Every curveball imagined including the covid slump, already having to fight for his position last year and STILL giving everything to program to keep its wheels turning. Joe is a true coach. He instills the important things that make a ball player like, character, attitude and confidence along with the fundamental things. He runs clinics, he does weekend training, he does summer programs, he gives rides if you need them, he checks in with you, he knows these girls and they have become a family unit. He has always had exceptional evaluations! More than even all of this. His TEAM (and their families) have been fighting for his job with the AD, superintendent and BOE. Their words and pleas have gone completely overlooked and it’s so disheartening. These girls who have been giving their all to this sport for years and going hard all summer with Joe are so excited for this basketball season and now they are DEVASTATED.
